Daimler to start production of new type of gearbox at Romanian plant

German Daimler Group, which has a gearbox factory in Romania, will begin production of a new, eight-speed gearbox for Mercedes-Benz cars at its local subsidiary Star Assembly in Sebes. Star Assembly is Romania’s second largest exporter. The group launched the 9G-Tronic gearbox factory in Sebes, central Romania in 2016, after a EUR 300 million investment. The company’s representatives will celebrate the new stage in plant production through an event to be held on February 7. “The ceremony will mark the beginning of a new phase of Daimler's investment in Romania, namely the expansion of the automotive production to the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz models,” the company announced in a press release. Star Assembly is the second largest exporter in Romania after Dacia and one of the largest companies by turnover, which hit RON 7.3 billion (EUR 1.67 billion) in 2017.
