Daimler inaugurates new EUR 36 mln unit in central Romania

German group Daimler inaugurated yesterday a new production unit at its plant in the town of Cugir, in central Romania. The EUR 36 million investment has led to the creation of 200 new jobs. The group has increased the production capacity of its factory in Cugir, operated via the local subsidiary Star Transmission. Daimler has another factory in Sebes, Alba county, which is operated via the firm Star Assembly. The new production unit in Cugir covers an area of 11,000 sqm. Employees will produce four different series of planetary gear for the new 9G-Tronic gearboxes. These gearboxes are produced in Daimler’s plant in Sebes, opened at the beginning of last year, after a EUR 300 million investment. Star Transmission was set up in 2001, as a Romanian-German joint-venture. In 2013, Daimler became the sole shareholder of Star Transmission Cugir and opened an assembly base, Star Assembly Sebes.
