Dacia employees rally in Romania’s Mioveni for Pitesti -Sibiu highway and better support for professional education

Up to 10,000 people, including union members from Automobile Dacia and other unionists from Craiova, Constanta and Bucharest, rallied on Wednesday (March 5) in Mioveni, Romania. The protesters waved signs saying “Irresponsible political class”, “Down with the Government”, and chanted slogans against the President and the Romanian Government. Their main demands were related to the construction of the Pitesti-Sibiu highway and better support for professional education, according to Automobile Dacia union leader, Nicolae Pavelescu, reports local newswire Mediafax. However, the deputy leader of the union, Ion Iordache, said that the protestors have no connection with politics. “This is a time when investors have started to lose interest. […] We want to be heard, we want a national program for professional education, we want infrastructure, financial support for developing companies, members of the Government to come among us to hear our problems,” said Iordache, quoted by Mediafax. Union leaders also said that, under the Labor Code, employers sign temporary contracts with workers, this being one of the employees'main complaints. The rally lasted for around an hour.
