Credit agreements could stop being used as enforcement orders in Romania

The Senate adopted on September 22 a bill repealing the current regulation which allows credit agreements to be used as enforcement orders. Thousands of people have been evicted from their homes as a result of foreclosures initiated by banks or collectors of debts, without having the chance to challenge the enforcement decision, according to the MPs who initiated the bill, reports local Profit.ro. The European Court of Human Rights has decided that if a debtor was not given the chance to oppose the foreclosure, he is entitled to compensation. The Government said that the amendment could have a negative impact, as repealing the current provision would have consequences on other debts securities or documents which can be used as enforcement orders. editor@romania-insider.com
