Counterfeit goods exhibition at Bucharest Palace of Justice marks World Intellectual Property Day

Counterfeit goods, such as t-shirts and shoes tagged as Nike or Adidas, perfumes wrapped as Chanel, cosmetics, coffee, electronics and pharmaceuticals goods are currently on display in an exhibition at the Palace of Justice in Bucharest. Several institutions in the country, such as the National Customs Authority, the Border Police, the Romanian Office for Intellectual Property (ORDA), the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) and the National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC) have stands at the exhibition which marks the World Intellectual Property Day - celebrated every year on April 26. The exhibition is on between April 25 and April 26, 2013. According to the data provided by the Border Police, over 137,000 counterfeit clothing and lingerie pieces, 41,000 cosmetics and perfumery items and over 53,000 pairs of shoes were seized at Romanian boarders last year. It was however, a big reduction on the previous year when the number of counterfeit clothing and lingerie pieces intercepted at the Romanian boarder amounted to over 506,000, the number of cosmetics and perfumery items stood at around 105,000, while the counterfeit pairs of shoes totaled over 146,000.
