Contract for Romania's Transylvania highway segment could be terminated

Romania’s Transport Ministry could terminate the contract for the construction of the Transylvania highway’s Suplacu de Barcau – Bors segment. The Romanian-Spanish joint venture Corsan - Corviam Construccion, Consinit, Road Consulting & Design Solution, and Via Design was awarded the contract for the construction of the 60-km segment in May last year. The National Highways Company (CNADNR) issued the order for starting the work in June 2015. Despite this, the companies sent their last version of the technical project to CNADNR only in August 2016. There’s nothing stopping the constructors to start the work, according to the Transport Ministry. Moreover, CNADNR made the down payment for this project, and the constructors promised to start work, but this hasn’t happened. The execution level for this contract is 0%. The contract is worth almost EUR 160 million. The Suplacu de Barcau-Bors segment of the Transylvania highway had been 40% built by American group Bechtel before the state cancelled the contract in 2013. editor@romania-insider.com (photo source: Mt.gov.ro)
