The average monthly household income in Romania amounted to RON 2, 579 (EUR 585) in the last quarter of 2014. Expenses reached EUR 575, 72% of which went to consumption. Food and utilities made almost 58% of consumer spending, according to the National Institute of Statistics. Wages generated over half of the income. Income from social benefits represented a quarter; agriculture income accounted for 3.3%, and income from independent non-agriculture activities amounted to 1%.
