Romania's Competition Council fines door and heater producers, DIY retailers

Romania’s Competition Council has sanctioned 41 companies on the door, heater, and boiler distribution market with fines totaling EUR 6.3 million for anti-competition agreements. The Competition Council carried out two investigations: one focused on metallic door producer Porta KMI and 24 of its distributors, and the other targeted heater and boiler producer Ariston Thermo Romania and 15 of its distributors. In the first investigation, Romanian do-it-yourself retailer Dedeman has to pay the biggest fine, worth some EUR 2 million. Retailer Arabesque was also fined EUR 780,000, and metallic door producer Porta KMI Romania was fined EUR 108,000. In the second investigation, Dedeman has to pay EUR 2.13 million, and Aristom Thermo was fined EUR 400,000. Dedeman is the biggest DIY retailer in Romania, with a turnover of close to EUR 1 billion and a net profit of EUR 93 million in 2015. editor@romania-insider.com
