A chief agent from the Bucharest Road Brigade - District 1 Minor Accidents Bureau was recently arrested after allegedly taking a EUR 8,000 bribe to intervene in a criminal case. The prosecutors have detained chief agent Aurel Mihai, accusing him of influence peddling, local news agency Mediafax reports. According to investigators, Mihai required EUR 8,000 in early-November from a person investigated in a case of road traffic offenses, saying that the money will be given to the prosecutor of the case in return for a favorable solution. Bucharest Court judges are yet to decide if Aurel Mihai will be arrested for 29 days for influence peddling. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
