Romania's passenger rail company plans to buy 100 second-hand trains

Romania’s state-owned passenger rail company CFR Calatori is in negotiations for buying 100 used trains similar to the Blue Arrow (Sageata Albastra) trains that it operates. The company should finalize the negotiations with European companies for this purchase by the end of this year, transport minister Lucian Sova said in an interview with News.ro. The minister added that there is demand for the company’s services but that CFR Calatori has too few passenger cars, which is why the number of passengers is low. “It’s frustrating to have passengers and not have enough wagons for them,” Sova said. The company recently made the headlines in Romania after it sold 500 tickets for a train at the seaside and only sent one wagon to take them. CFR Calatori is currently operating at a loss.
