Central Romanian city Cluj – Napoca to add 40 buses to its public transport fleet this year

Commuters in the central Romanian city of Cluj – Napoca will get to ride 40 new buses starting fall this year, after the city hall will spend EUR 14 million on renewing its public transport fleet. These will add to the existing 213 buses, 36 trams, and 93 trolleys operated by the public transport company RATUC. The new buses will have air conditioning, video surveillance, low flooring, access for disabled travelers, double access doors, and a system to count passengers, among others. The local authorities have started the procedures to buy the 40 buses, and around mid-March the announcement should be published in the electronic acquisition system SEAP, following which a bid will be organized. The winner of the bus renewal contract should be announced at end of March this year. Cluj - Napoca, located in Central Romania, has over 320,000 inhabitants according to the 2011 census. editor@romania-insider.com
