Central Bank official: Romania’s “euro in 2019” target has a large political component, is feasible but ambitious

The Romanian Government’s target to adopt euro in 2019, has a large political component, but is feasible albeit ambitious, according to the Deputy Governor of Romania’s Central Bank BNR, Cristian Popa. According to Popa, a political consensus is however important, together with awareness and a clear identification of stages, intermediate and before the actual adoption of the euro, reports local Agerpres. The Romanian Government has decided that January 1, 2019 is the target date for Romania’s euro zone entry, budget minister Liviu Voinea announced on Tuesday at the Economy and Finance Ministers of the EU member states EcoFin meeting in Brussels.
