Car sales go up 6.9% in Romania, local car production is down 6.9%

The sale of motor vehicles saw an increase of 6.9% in Romania in the first five months of the year reaching over 46,200 units. Meanwhile, the national production dropped by 6.9% year-on-year, according to the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA). The passenger car sales totaled almost 35,900 units, up 0.9% year-on-year. The imports of used cars went up by 25.1% during this period. Romanians bought four used cars for each new one. In May, car sales dropped by 20.8% compared to the same month in 2015. However, the vehicle market increased in the first four months of the year, so the total result after the first five months of the year was a positive one. Car sales were supported by the purchases made by companies, similar to the previous years. Firms accounted for 87% of the total number of cars sold. editor@romania-insider.com
