Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau (picture, left), the Canadian Prime Minister's wife, managed to draw everyone's attention during the couple's visit to the White House, wearing a red and pink dress
designed by Romanian-born Lucian Matis.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife had an official meeting with US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama at the White House on Thursday, March 11.
"Grégoire-Trudeau thrilled fashion lovers with her vibrant red and fuscia dress, custom-printed with silk floral appliqués by Toronto-based Romanian-born designer Lucian Matis," writes cbc.ca. Later that evening, the Canadian Prime Minister's wife wore another dress by Lucian Matis at the White House dinner the Obamas organised for their Canadian visitors.
Lucian Matis was born in Blaj, in Romania's Transylvania region. In 1999, he moved to Canada where he studied fashion design at
Ryerson University in Toronto
. He now has Canadian citizenship.
