Almost 90% of the buildings in Romania are energy inefficient

Almost 90% of the buildings in Romania are energy inefficient and the public authorities should give an example and invest in this sector, said on Tuesday, June 12, Zoltan Nagy-Bege, a vice president of the energy regulator ANRE. He added that in Romania’s case, the share of energy inefficient buildings is much higher than in Europe, where it stands at about 75%, local Agerpres reported. The ANRE official added that the authorities should think of energy efficiency as an energy resource as the cheapest energy is the one that is saved. Public buildings represent 64% of the total energy consuming buildings in Romania. Education institutions use 354 kWh of energy per sqm per year, compared to a consumption of 200-250 kWh per sqm per year for buildings in other sectors, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS) centralized by German company GFR. editor@romania-insider.com
