Bucharest's Metrorex can’t find EUR 500 mln for subway line to the airport

The building of a subway line connecting Romania’s capital Bucharest to its Otopeni international airport will have to wait for an indefinite period of time. Metrorex, the company that manages the Bucharest metro, said that it still needed to find EUR 500 million for this project. Although there were many financing possibilities, according to the company, Metrorex still didn’t know where to get the money from, reports local Ziarul Financiar. The total investment in this metro line would exceed EUR 800 million, said Catalin Homor, Metrorex investment director. A Japanese bank granted Metrorex a EUR 300 million loan in 2010. At that time, the work was expected to take seven years, and the investment was estimated at EUR 1 billion.
