Bucharest public transport company fined with EUR 34,000

Romania’s National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC) fined Bucharest’s public transport company RATB with some EUR 34,000 for breaches of hygiene rules, lack of air conditioning and breaches of the passenger safety regulations. The inspectors found dirty windows, dirty and torn floors and seats, non-functioning neon lights, as well as overused tires that could cause accidents. The ANPC has inspected six bus, trolleybus and tramway depots on Friday and temporarily stopped some 20 vehicles that didn’t comply with the rules, out of 40 vehicles checked. The authority also asked RATB to buy cleaning products, as it didn’t have any in its warehouses. “I understand they don’t have money for revamping and air conditioning, but they must find money for cleaning. The current situation is unacceptable,” said ANPC’s president Marius Dunca. RATB announced that it has bought the required cleaning products and that it will remedy the problems. editor@romania-insider.com
