Bucharest metro operator changes access gates with EU money

Bucharest’s subway operator Metrorex will modernize the control and access system into the subway stations as part of a RON 150 million (EUR 33 million) project financed with EU funds. Metrorex will replace the current turnstile access system with swing gates that have a reading system for magnetic stripe card and contactless cards. The Bucharest subway operator will also acquire 139 automatic vending points for access cards, which can give change and also accept card payments. Work on this project will start at the end of this month and will be unrolled in 41 metro stations, in several phases. The subway stations that have only one access point, including Aurel Vlaicu and Pipera, will be closed for maximum one week while the access system will be changed. This phase will take place over the summer, when subway traffic is usually lower. editor@romania-insider.com
