Bucharest metro opens two new stations today following an investment of EUR 72.5 mln

Jiului and Parc Bazilescu subway stations, on Line 4 (Gara de Nord - Straulesti), were put into service today, after an investment of EUR 72.5 million, excluding VAT, according to the Ministry of Transport. The inauguration was attended by the Prime Minister Emil Boc and the Transport Minister, Anca Boagiu. “The Ministry of Transport has an increasing interest to develop the metro in coming years, as this year works will start at the new metro line Drumul Taberei – Pantelimon, specifically the Raul Doamnei - Eroilor section, including Valea Ialomitei station, an investment of EUR 274 million”, said Anca Boagiu. Jiului and Parc Bazilesu metro stations are conected by a 2.62 km metro line and costed EUR 72.5 million to build. Through the entry into service of the two new metro stations, the length of the Bucharest metro network reaches 68.6 km and a total of 51 underground station, according to the Ministry of Transport. Works on tunnels and the two stations were finalized in the second part of 2010, while the furnishings and the equipments were installed at the end of 2010.
