Bucharest City Hall pays EUR 28 mln for new skating rink

The Mihai Flamaropol skating rink in Bucharest will be demolished and replaced by a new hall to be built by Romanian Uti Grup and Italian Astaldi association. The rink is located in the National Sports Complex in Eastern Bucharest, near the National Arena. The Municipality awarded the RON 125 million (EUR 28 million) contract in mid-June this year, reports local Hotnews.ro. The tender for the construction work on the new rink took place last year and was finalised in September 2014, but the City Hall couldn't award the contract because the auction results were challenged. Work on the new rink should start this year if the old building will be demolished in time. The project is to be completed in two years. The new building will have a capacity of 3,100 seats. Both amateur and professional athletes will have access on the new rink. Besides the Olympic skating rink, the building will also host a swimming pool, a gym, spaces for physical recovery and relaxation, spaces for indoor climbing, as well as commercial spaces. Several sports competitions are to be organized in the new sports hall, such as ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating and curling.
