Brasov plant to deliver 100 trucks in Taiwan

Brasov-based truck producer Roman SA has concluded a EUR 12 million contract to deliver 100 trucks in Taiwan. The plant also has an ongoing contract with the Romanian Army and is in negotiations with a company from Pakistan, reports local News.ro. The plant is building 23 military trucks for the Romanian Army, and the value of the contract is RON 2 million (EUR 510,000), said Carol Rugacs, the production director and the special administrator of Roman SA. He added that the company has been making efforts to survive, but the laws in Romania generate problems. As the factory is currently under judicial reorganization, it can take part in auctions only if it has a guarantee letter from a bank. The plant, which was founded in 1938, was initially producing arms, but after nationalization, it began producing trucks. In 1990, it was one of the biggest factories in Romania, with some 26,000 employees. Its problems began in 2006, when thousands of people were fired. The factory, which is 80%-owned by the Association Pro Roman Brasov, currently has 300 employees and is part of a reorganization plan.
