Several MPs from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Save Romania Union (USR), and from national minorities have drafted a law that may oblige producers to mark the content of biomaterial on plastic bags. Those that fail to do this will get fines ranging between RON 15,000-25,000 (EUR 3,300-5,500), according to the draft bill submitted to the Senate, reports local News.ro. The bill also provides that plastic bags need to have a content of minimum 30% of biomaterial starting next year, minimum 50% starting 2020, and minimum 60% starting 2025. The current law transposes a EU Directive from 2015 that aims to reduce the use of very thin plastic bags. editor@romania-insider.com
