Around 6% of Romanians have rare diseases, but most are undiagnosed or wrongly diagnosed

Around 1.2 million Romanians, or 6 percent of Romania's population suffer from rare diseases, and the diagnosis capabilities for these people are low, according to Maria Puiu, the vice president of the National Alliance for Rare Diseases in Romania. The ratio in Romania is in line with the one worldwide, of 6 to 8 percent of the population. Around a fifth of the rare diseases in Romania are neurological. Worldwide, there are around 4,000 diseases for which there isn't any treatment. More of the over 1 million people in Romania who are believed to have rare diseases are either yet undiagnosed, or have been wrongly diagnosed. editor@romania-insider.com
