Over 30,000 house retrocession requests still pending in Romania

Romania’s city halls have over 30,000 house retrocession requests still pending, with most of the cases recorded in Bucharest and Constanta, according to an analysis of the law firm Pavel, Margarit & Asociatii. Bucharest has over 24,100 unresolved retrocession requests, followed by Constanta, with 3,171 cases, and Arad, with 892 cases. People with unresolved cases at the Bucharest City Hall may still file a lawsuit against the City Hall until July 1. The resolved cases have been sent to the National Authority for Property Restitution (ANRP) for a final decision. This institution can also be sued in court if it doesn’t solve the cases in due time. The special committee within ANRP has received over 61,000 house retrocession requests so far. More than 8,300 have been submitted after May 2013. So far, about 23,000 cases have been solved, according to ANRP. editor@romania-insider.com
