3% of bank deposit owners in Romania own 60% of the money

Romania records significant disparities in terms of the bank deposits owned by individuals, according to a presentation of Florin Georgescu, Romania’s National Bank (BNR) first deputy governor. 3% of the people who have bank deposits own 60% of the amounts whereas 60% of the depositors own less than 1% of the money deposited in local banks, reports local Profit.ro. The revenue disparity is higher in Romania compared to the EU average, and this reflects in the structure of bank deposits, said Florin Georgescu. Also, 40.1% of the depositors own only 0.06% of the deposits’ value, with an average deposit of RON 21 (EUR 4.6). Another 20.4% own only 0.6% of the deposits, with an average deposit of RON 409 (EUR 91). Thus, 6.1 million people own deposits totaling around EUR 205 million. Meanwhile, some 300,000 people own deposits totaling almost EUR 19 billion, or EUR 63,000 each, on average. Moreover, 136 people own 2.6% of all deposits, namely some EUR 780 million or EUR 5.7 million each, on average. editor@romania-insider.com
