Romanian President accepts new minister appointments

18 October 2017

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis signed yesterday the decisions on appointing three new ministers in the Mihai Tudose cabinet.

The powerful PSD Olt leader Paul Stanescu is the new development minister, Felix Stroe is transport minister, and Marius Nica is EU funds minister. The appointment ceremony took place yesterday evening at the Cotroceni presidential palace.

Iohannis also signed the decrees by which he took note of the resignations of Sevil Shhaideh from the development minister office, Razvan Cuc from the position of transport minister and Rovana Plumb from the EU Funds minister office.

Prime minister Mihai Tudose announced last week that he planned to change the ministers with legal problems in his cabinet. This led to the PSD Executive Committee’s meeting on Thursday, where three of the ministers targeted by the reshuffle announced their resignations. However, junior coalition partner ALDE refused to replace the minister for the relation with the Parliament Viorel Ilie, also targeted by a corruption investigation.
