Bulgaria and Romania want to build a new bridge between them because of the intense traffic on the existing Giurgiu-Ruse bridge, according to Bulgarian publication Novinite.

A second bridge would connect the cities of Ruse and Giurgiu.

Representatives of the two countries had a meeting on Tuesday where they discussed about this. It would be the third bridge over the Danube between Romania and Bulgaria, after the existing Calafat – Vidin and Giurgiu-Ruse.

The discussions on building it are not new, but the problem has become urgent because of the increased traffic. In the first eight months of this year, over 1.37 million vehicles crossed the bridge between Giurgiu and Ruse, compared to about 750,000 in the same period last year.

The second Giurgiu-Ruse bridge would be about 3 kilometers long. Representatives of Romania and Bulgaria will meet in the beginning of October to discuss this project.
