Young Romanian researcher wants to revolutionize Internet with 3D image transfer technology

A young Romanian researcher who developed an advanced 3D image processing technology for consumer applications managed to attract some USD 3.35 million in funding from several venture capitalists and angel investors to further develop his project called Fyusion. Romanian Radu Rusu recently launched a mobile app for 3D photo sharing, available for iOs and Android mobile devices, according to Hotnews.ro. The app, called Fyuse, uses a ‘surround view’ format, allowing users to capture and send 3D images from one mobile device to another. “Our investors see us as the next Facebook/Google, because we have the capacity to revolutionize the internet, to make it more interactive, more ‘tridimensional’, richer in information and in emotion,” said Radu Rusu, quoted by Hotnews.ro. “The next Facebook is tridimensional, and is built by a Romanian,” he proudly added. Fyusion, the company he runs, currently has 15 employees, and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Rusu, 33, graduated the Technical University in Cluj – Napoca, as well as the Technische Universitaet Muenchen. He holds a doctoral degree in computer science from the same university. From 2005 to 2009, he was part of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems research group. Rusu was also an International Fellow Researcher with the Artificial Intelligence Center (AIC), Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International, as well as researcher at Willow Garage, and Visiting Lecturer at Stanford University.
