Update: Constantin Brâncuși’s “Danaida” became the second most expensive sculpture in auction history, bringing in USD 107.6 million and overturning a ranking previously dominated by the works of Alberto Giacometti, according to an AFP database, cited by Agerpres.
Before the auction held on Monday, May 18, the top three positions among the most expensive sculptures in history were all held by works by Giacometti. Now, the only work that sold for more than “Danaida” is “L'homme au doigt,” a creation by the Swiss sculptor, valued at USD 141.3 million at Christie's in New York in 2015.
