Romania’s Transylvania Giant Rabbit to be included on the list of international breeds

A new rabbit breed, named the Transylvania Giant Rabbit, could become the first Romanian rabbit breed included on the list of recognized international breeds, reports local Digi24. The Romanian rabbit grows to weigh 8 kilograms and was obtained by a specialist in genetics, professor at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, who started this project in 2007. The Transylvania Giant was obtained by crossing the Romanian rustic rabbit with the Grey Giant and the Californian rabbit. The breed is highly resistant to diseases and has a high commercial efficiency when raised for meat. It can also be a great pet, while its particular colors make it suitable for competitions. Its distinct features are the black extremities (paws, tail, ears and nose), while the rest of its body is white.
