Romania's Health Minister resigns due to low funding for health after budget revision

Romania’s Health Minister Cseke Atilla resigned on Thursday, after the ministry he has been leading did not receive the needed funds to cover all its investment requirements, following the country’s budget reshuffling on Wednesday. Cseke Atilla, a member of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), said he had not been consulted before the budget revision, which was one of the main reasons behind his resignation. He also said that his office had several disputes in time with the representatives of the Ministry of Finance. Cseke Attila said that he received the budget revision only on Wednesday at 14:00 hours, and the Health Minister was not consulted about it, fact that he described as "extremely serious". He added that last week he asked the Ministry of Finance, through a formal address, a discussion between the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, and the National Health Insurance House (CNAS) to correct the budget, but there was no action to fulfill his request. Cseke Attila said on July 13 that the Health budget needs RON 4 billion after the budget revision, but the Ministry of Health received only RON 300 million after the budget revision presented by the Romanian Prime Minister.
