Romanians, Albanians and Turkish are NATO’s top Facebook fans

Readers from Romania, Albania and Turkey make NATO’s top three groups of Facebook fans, writes prweek.com in a story in which a NATO official speaks about the importance of social media. According to Franky Saegerman, NATO’s head of social media, the organizations that ignore the power of social media run the risk of having their agenda hijacked. "It is critical that you are out in-front managing your message so that you do it yourself; if you don’t, someone will do it for you and not always with the best intentions,” he said during a conference. "NATO needs social media more than social media needs NATO," he added, quoted by prweek.com. However, even if the organization recognizes the value of social media on a corporate level, it limits itself to four official Twitter accounts and does not allow its staff members to have their own.
