Romanian writer Ion Luca Caragiale's house, converted into restaurant with EUR 300,000

The former house of the well-known Romanian writer Ion Luca Caragiale has recently been converted into a restaurant that reminds of the Bucharest from the early twentieth century. The new restaurant, called La Union, was opened in early March following an investment of EUR 300,000. “The purpose was to create a great space respecting the architectural history of the house. For these reasons, most of the money was invested in arranging the restaurant”, said Cristian Mihai Balint, owner of La Union. From the total investment, 60 percent was directed toward structural revamping, restoration of original architectural elements and interior fittings, while the remaining 40 percent was invested in equipment and machinery. La Union has also announced a series of events that will exploit the cultural side of the place. The restaurant is located on the I.L. Caragiale St at no. 21-23. Ion Luca Caragiale was a Romanian playwritgh, journalist and political commentator who lived between 1852 and 1912. Of Greek origins, Caragiale is considered one of the most important Romanian writers. He died in Berlin, whe he had moved at the beginning of the century.
