Romanian short film gets Canal+ award in Cannes

The short film Ramona, directed by Romanian Andrei Cretulescu, recently won the Canal+ award of the Semaine de la Critique section in Cannes. “I am very excited, very grateful to my friends with whom I made this short film,” said Cretulescu, cited by local Digi24. Ramona is an independent short, a violent and stylized film with no dialogue, part of the Romanian director’s short film trilogy that started with Bad Penny in 2013 and continued with Kowalski in 2014. All three films star the same actors, namely Rodica Lazar, Dorian Boguta, Andi Vasluianu, Serban Pavlu, and Ana Ularu (who plays Ramona). Semaine de la Critique is a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival created by the French Union of Film Critics in 1962. The Canal+ award goes to one of the ten short and medium-length films in the competition. Romanian films make it to Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section.
