Romanian Science Festival returns to Timisoara

The fourth edition of the Romanian Science Festival takes place this week in Timisoara - the 2023 European Capital of Culture. In numbers, the May 25-27 edition means 14 researchers from the academic diaspora, 250 volunteers, two caravans travelling through Timis county, and more than 100 experiments.

The main purpose of the event is to support alternative education in Romania by involving the academic diaspora, the organizers said.

On the first day of the festival, May 25, the RSF Caravan made stops in Jimbolia and Lugoj, both in Timis county, to bring science closer to children in rural and small urban areas. On May 26, RSF mentors will visit high schools in Timisoara to share their research and give them career advice.

The third and last day is dedicated to the community. A fair of scientific experiments from 18 disciplines will be organized at Iulius Gardens in Timisoara, awaiting the curious between 11:00 and 17:00. Admission is free.

Romanian Science Festival was founded in 2018 and is the first national science festival in the country. Last year, it was named a Falling Walls Science Engagement winner.

Since its launch in 2018, the festival has brought science to over 150 schools in Romania and has reached over 100,000 students.
