Romanian president: Recovery of unpaid taxes through private firms, further social unrest, new privatizations

The Romanian state should seek to recover the fiscal debt from companies through the partnership with private companies, which would get a fee of the recovered amount, said Romanian president Traian Basescu in a TV show on Sunday morning. This would increase the volume of recovered taxes by the Romanian state and would also fuel revenues to the private sector. Similarly, the taxation authority ANAF should no longer be a part of the Finance Ministry, but rather of the Interior Ministry, as ANAF mostly deals with financial crime, Basescu also said. His statement came as a reaction of the recent social movements which started at the Finance Ministry, which, Basescu said, he had anticipated. “I anticipate further and more consistent movements in the following period,” he said. As for 2011, Basescu said Romania should privatize the remaining state firms mostly though stock exchange listing, starting with the freight transport state company CFR Marfa. editor@romania-insider.com
