Romanian pickles, corn wheat, jam and cozonaci, on sale at several Delhaize supermarkets in Brussels

Belgian retailer Delhaize, which runs the Mega Image supermarket chain in Romania, has delivered Romanian products to some of its shops in Brussels. The retailer chose three stores close to the Romanian communities in the European capital, Delhaize Flagey, Delhaize Debroux and Delhaize Chazal. Romanians who live in Brussels, and well as foreigners, will be able to buy Romanian pickles and Romanian pickled cabbage – which are a must for the traditional Romanian Christmas food, as well as corn wheat – used for making the traditional polenta, which usually accompanies the minced meat rolls wrapped in picked cabbage, 'sarmale' , the traditional vegetable spread ' zacusca' , the traditional cake 'cozonac' – which is another Christmas must, the traditional plum jam 'magiun', and the Romanian corn-puff snacks pufuleti, among others. The retailer will also sell two types of local wine. All the products are under the brand Gusturi Romanesti (which translates as Romanian tastes) . The brand has been developed by Mega Image in Romania, in partnership with local producers. The introduction of the Romanian products is an initiative of the Romanian embassy in Brussels, which wants to celebrate Romania's National Day on December 1, as well as the winter holidays. Foreigners make around 30 percent of Brussels' 1 million – inhabitant population, where most European institutions are head-quartered. A 2012 study pointed to 22,000 Romanians in Belgium, most of which were living in Brussels. editor@romania-insider.com
