Romania sets new world record for longest sausage

Retailer Carrefour Romania and local meat producer Aldis helped Romania set a new world record by making the longest sausage in the world. The sausage, which was made of raw minced meat, is 62,745 meters long (62.7 km) and weighs 45 tons. It was displayed in the parking lot of Ploiesti Shopping City, where Carrefour has one of its hypermarkets. The sausage was stored in large crates. The record was homologated by officials from the Guinness World Record, on December 1, on Romania’s National Day. The previous record for longest sausage had been set in October 2000, in the UK, and was 59.14 km long. After the ceremony, a part of the giant sausage was donated for charity. People who attended the event could also taste it. This is the second world record for longest sausage set by Romania in recent years. In December 2008, the Bucharest Municipality also made it to the Guinness Book of World Records with the longest smoked sausage, which was 392 meters long. However, this record only lasted until May 2011, when a group of Germans managed to make an even longer smoked sausage (482 meters). editor@romania-insider.com
