Romanian Design Week adds seven international exhibitions

This year’s edition of Romanian Design Week will feature a series of exhibitions documenting the evolution of design from various international cultural perspectives.

The seven exhibitions, grouped in the section Design Flags, were put together in partnerships with embassies or cultural institutions in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, and Hungary.

The exhibitions are meant to encourage the dialogue between the Romanian design market and the international one and the development of the local creative industries beyond the country’s borders.

As such, the public will get to see street posters exploring the history of Madrid, posters of the Association of Hungarian Designers, and an exhibition from the Design Institute of the Art and Design University of Budapest.

Also on display will be the interactive installation created by food designer Chloé Rutzerveld – Future Food Formula (pictured), and the product design exhibition Made in CZ/Found in RO, which covers items made in the former Czechoslovakia and found in the daily life of Romanians before 1989.

Another exhibition, Portugal Normal, looks at items that have made it into the Portuguese collective memory. At the same time, Matters - Rethinking Materials investigates how the use of unconventional materials can open the discussion about sustainability in design.

The exhibitions will be open at the Qreator by IQOS hub. They will be open to the public between September 13 and September 30, between 10:00 and 20:00. Access is free of charge, in compliance with the current sanitary rules.

Romanian Design Week takes place this year between September 11 and September 20.
