Only confectionery museum in Romania, tucked away in a 75-year old passionate confectioner’s house

The only confectionery museum in Romania, which was opened eight years ago in the house of a Romanian confectionery master from Arad has attracted a small number of visitors over the years. Local authorities do not seem to take an interest in this museum, says its founder, the 75-year old Ioan Gui, quoted by Agerpres newswire. He hopes the authorities will focus on his museum too, given that Arad aims to become the European Cultural Capital in 2021. Gui managed to collect some unique items, gathering 360 in total, such as a 1920s ice-cream machine and a candy making machine, to a marzipan-maker, as well as recipes and confectionery books, some of which unique in the country. The 75-year old was a confectioner for over 4 decades, and for most of this time he led a confectionery lab in the city. Once retired, he decided to create the museum, using the items he had started collecting in the 70s, and after he had salvaged unique equipment, some of them even from scrap metal deposits.
