Three pamphlet music videos have been the most viewed YouTube videos in Romania in 2014, according to Google’s YouTube Rewind 2014. The video “Cine E Grasuta?”, which translates “Who’s the Fat Girl?”, leads in the ranking. The hip-hop video was made by Romanian comedians Nelu Cortea and Micutzu. The text of the video is rather demeaning to overweight women. The second most popular video is a cover on J Balvin’s song “Tranquila” made by a three young Romanian comedians who run a YouTube channel called Noaptea Tarziu (Late at Night). Their video is called “Sunt Un Cocalar” which translates into “I’m A Cocalar”. “Cocalar” roughly means low level gangster, describing people who think they are cool, slick and very important, without actually being so. The third video in this ranking, “#VALOAREDAIAMARE” (Such Big Value) is made by one of the most popular Romanian vloggers (vlogger means video blogger), ZMENTA Mihai, who mocks the famous “manele”. “Manele” define a music genre which was launched by Romanian gipsy singers in the late 1990s and which became a widespread phenomenon in Romania. However, the genre lost some of its popularity in recent years. Two episodes of the famous Romanian animation series "RObotzi", made by local producer Creative Monkeyz, have also made it to the top 10 most watched YouTube videos in Romania this year. Creative Monkeyz also had seven RObotzi episodes among the most popular ten YouTube videos in Romania in 2013. The video with the old lady dancing salsa, on Britain’s Got Talent, also made it to the top 5most popular in Romania this year. When it comes to official music videos, Enrique Inglesias’ "Bailando"(the Spanish version) was the most popular in Romania in 2014. Romanian artist Alex Velea ranked second, with his video “Din Vina Ta” (Your Fault), and Katy Perry was third, with her “Dark Horse”. “Dark Horse” was the most popular YouTube official video worldwide in 2014, according to Google. Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle” was also in the top 5, in Romania. However, Romanian music videos took seven of the top 10 places this year. See below the most popular YouTube videos in Romania in 2014: 1.
