Great-grand nephew of Bram Stoker - the author of Dracula novel, to visit Romania this month

Dacre Stoker, the great-grand nephew of Irish author Bram Stoker - the author of the 1897 Gothic novel Dracula, will come to Romania this November. Stoker will visit the Dracula hotel-castle in Pasul Tihuta, Bargau mountains, where he will do some research for a travel guide. “Due to the popularity of Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel, Romania became a target for countless tourists who want to see and walk through the places related to the legend of the famous vampire, Count Dracula,” reads a statement Ana-Maria Muscar, manager of the Dracula hotel-castle, quoted by Mediafax newswire. “Until today, the Stoker family didn’t get involved in these activities. This will change now, when Dacre Stoker teams up with Dutch author and photographer Hans Corneel de Roos.” Dacre Stoker and Hans de Roos, together with Travel Channel film producer Aaron Saagers, will be in Romania for ten days, between November 19 and November 28, to meet their partners here. “In addition to the travel guide, the team will produce a complementary TV series that will follow their journey. They will explain why Bram Stoker didn’t want to make the connection between Count Dracula and the historical character Vlad Tepes,” reads the statement. According to this source, Pasul Tihuta (Borgo Pass) plays a vital role in the novel Dracula. Through this pass, the young lawyer Jonathan Harker travels in a coach from Bistrita to Bucovina, until Count Dracula’s coach takes him. Located at over 1,000 m of altitude, at Piatra Fantanele, the Dracula hotel-castle was built in the 80s and its construction lasted seven years.
