Cities in Romania compete to become the country's Earth Hour Capital this year

Romania will be again part of the Earth Hour movement this year and will turn off the lights on March 31, between 20:30 and 21:30. This year, 20 cities in Romania compete to become the country's Earth Hour Capital, according to Ora-pamantului.ro. Adjud, Bistriţa, Botoşani, Brăila, Braşov, Bucureşti, Cluj Napoca, Constanţa, Giurgiu, Iasi, Mizil, Panciu, Ploiesti, Ramnicu Valcea, Roman, Sighisoara, Slobozia, Suceava, Timisoara and Vaslui are the Romanian cities to take part in the competition organized by WWF Romania.

According to the rules, after the evaluation of the applications submitted, the three cities with the best scores will participate on March 17, 2012, in the competition’s final, when public contributions will be essential. City residents will be asked to bring as many plastic bottles as they can to a municipality designated place. The city that collects the most plastic bottles will be named the 2012 Earth Hour Capital in Romania. This year, similar to past years, several hotels and institutions in Romania will stay in the dark for one hour on March 31, as part of the Earth Hour Movement.
