Bucharest City Hall doesn’t have money for the traditional New Year’s Eve party in Constitutiei Square

The Bucharest City Hall can’t finance this year the New Year’s Eve party in Constitutiei Square, according to interim mayor Stefanel Marin. The event would need a budget of some RON 2-2.5 million (around EUR 500,000). “I don’t think the New Year’s Eve party in Constitutiei Square will be organized with money from the Bucharest City Hall. I hope we’ll find resources somewhere else because the City Hall can’t support this event,” said Marin, cited by local Mediafax. The New Year’s Eve party in Constitutiei Square became a tradition in Romania's capital, being organized for seven years in a row. According to the interim mayor, several institutions and departments within the City Hall will have their budgets reduced at the budget revision, as the municipality has to find more than EUR 11 million (RON 50 million) to give to thermal energy supplier RADET, in order to secure heating for Bucharest's residents over the winter.
