Adrian Ghenie painting on sale at Bucharest auction this October

Good news for art collectors in Romania who want to add a painting by famous Romanian artist Adrian Ghenie to their collection. His painting Christ will go on sale at the Autumn Auction to be organized by Artmark at the Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest, on October 25. The artwork has an estimated price of EUR 12,000 – 18,000. At only 39, Adrian Ghenie is on the short list of the largest auction houses in the world, and his works are acquired and exhibited by some of the largest and most famous museums worldwide. His most recent record was registered just a few days ago when his painting Nickelodeonwas sold for USD 9 million (GBP 7.1 million) at a Christie’s auction in London. The Romanian artist thus doubled his previous record. In February this year,Ghenie’s painting Sunflowers sold for USD 4.5 million at a Sotheby’s auction in London. Works by other famous Romanian painters, such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Theodor Aman, and Nicolae Tonitza will also be auctioned during this event. A wooden chair sculpted by Constantin Brancusi is the most expensive item in this auction, with an estimated price between EUR 70,000 and EUR 100,000. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
