05 October 2017

The Romanian Do-It-Yourself market is in full boom and its expansion will not stop soon, Leroy Merlin Romania general manager Frederic Lamy said yesterday.

The largest DIY retailers have recorded two-digit growth rates and plan to continue their expansion.

“Romania has a strong economic growth and the real estate market gives us long-term confidence. We expect 10 million customers by 2017,” he added, reports local Economica.net.

The company plans to open a new store in Craiova next year, on the plot of the former Baumax store. Leroy Merlin Romania took over the Baumax network in Romania in 2014.

Moreover, the retailer plans to open two new stores in Bucharest. One of them will be located in the eastern part of the city, near Kika, whereas the other one will be in the Militari area, in the west. Leroy also intends to transform a former Baumax unit in Chitila, near Bucharest, into a training center for its 2,000 employees.

The French retailer currently has 16 stores in Romania. It expects to reach a network of 35 stores by 2025, ten of which will be in Bucharest.
