Romanian justice minister survives opposition’s motion

21 March 2019

Romania's Chamber of Deputies on March 18 rejected the simple motion against justice minister Tudorel Toader by 126 votes for to 148 against and 2 abstentions. local Hotnews.ro reported.

The head of the ruling Social Democratic Party's caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, Florin Iordache -- himself former justice minister, said that he was still unhappy with Toader's work, which he evaluated as “not satisfactory.” However, PSD didn't support the simple motion against Toader, thus giving him one more chance to improve his performance.

PSD still waits for Toader to come up with more ordinances including amendments to justice laws, by the end of the week, Iordache commented.

If enforced, the ordinances requested by PSD would create even more disturbances in the judiciary procedures, since they would pave the way for re-opening trials already closed and complicate the work of prosecutors.
