How many restaurants does Bucharest host?
Bucharest hosts over 3,400 restaurants, bars and cafes, with an annual business of EUR 562 million.
The turnover represents a third of Romania’s restaurant market, even if Bucharest hosts only an eighth of the total companies active in the sector.
Romania has some 24,400 restaurants, bars and cafes. The capital has 3,102 restaurants and 329 bars and cafes, according to the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, reports local Ziarul Financiar.
The industry includes many units which close down in the first months after the opening.
Bucharest’s restaurant market is followed by Cluj, Constanta, Brasov and Timis counties. However, each of these markets is six up to nine times smaller than the one in Bucharest.
