How big is Romania’s gambling market?

The gambling market in Romania reached EUR 1.2 billion at the end of last year. It included 12,000 gambling halls and 70,000 slots machines.

A company needs to own at least 75 slot machines and pay an annual licensing tax of EUR 3,000 to run a video-slot business.

On average, a slot machine produces some EUR 8,000 per month. Romanians who gamble spend on average EUR 100 per month on bets, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

The companies registered at Romania’s Trade Register with gambling activities had a turnover of RON 5.3 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) and some 29,000 employees.

Max Bet ranks first among local gambling companies, with a turnover of almost EUR 60 million and a profit of EUR 17 million. Its turnover grew by 50% in the last two years. Its profit margin of 25% makes it one of the most profitable companies in Romania.
