Former Cluj County Council head will spend over 6 years in prison for corruption

Romanian politician Horia Uioreanu, the former head of the Cluj County Council, was sentenced to six years and four months in prison for bribery, forgery of private documents and complicity in money laundering.

The decision of the Court of Appeal is final.

Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) detained Horia Uioreanu in May 2014. He was then placed under preventive arrest on charges of bribery, forgery of private documents and complicity in money laundering. The investigators found that the former county council president took between 10% and 15% of the value of public works allotted by the local authority.

In 2016, Uioreanu received a first prison sentence of six years and six months in this case, but appealed the decision.
